Bird Craft: Put a Bird on a Chest
Craft Test Dummy Jenny used Martha Stewart Paints to Put a Bird on an Ikea Chest. Coincidentally, I saw Martha use the same line of Ikea woodstuffs to add drawers to a craft hutch she made. Believe it!

Turkey or Trendy? #5: Put Some Paint on It
Let's face it, I could choose absolutely anything to demonstrate the "Put Some Paint on It" trend (which is why you'll likely see this topic come up again).
In terms of thriftiness and being green, nothing beats slapping a coat of paint on a tired or dated piece of furniture in order to give it new life.
But some people are so enamored of their own painting skills that they think they've performed a creative miracle when they've done nothing more than "Put Some Paint on It". It rarely looks bad, but also rarely looks like some major creative forces were at work.
So, for the sake of uniformity, here are some similar-looking "Put Some Paint on It" makeovers.
"Newest Dresser Revealed!" from Twenty-Six to Life.
Vintage Dresser Revamp via Design*Sponge.
I found this one when somebody linked it on Apartment Therapy's comments section.
And fans of hacking the IKEA Rast took this white-on-wood theme and ran with it...
IKEA Rast hack via Design*Sponge (and he Put a Bird on It, too).
IKEA Rast hack from For Me, For You (and she Put an Ampersand on It).
IKEA Rast hack from Designing Life.
IKEA Rast hack from Hand Jobs for the Home.
This one is from Jessica is Busy.
I could go on and on with the Rast Hacks, there's at least three more.
Will you be Putting Some Paint on It?

I think they bought their lamp from Target.

Bird Puts Itself on It
This poor owl ran into a window, leaving an imprint behind from the powder down in his feathers. BBC News has the whole story.

Turkey or Trendy? #4: Put an Ampersand on It
For whatever reason, people are beginning to eschew the the letter in interior design and are now going with the ampersand. A lot.
In kitchens...
Lindsay's White and Aqua Nashville Kitchen, from Apartment Therapy's Small Cool Kitchen Contest 2011.
& dining rooms...
by photog David Cleveland, via 79 Ideas.
& in furniture "Before & Afters"...
Lisa's Chair via Design*Sponge
& Stylist Marie Nichols is all over it.
(Considering 50% of my Pinterest account is from her, maybe she gets a pass).
& in wedding photography, where it makes sense (him & her!) and is actually very cute!
by Sweet Monday Photography, via WeddingChicks.com
& since two of our previous "Turkey or Trendy" posts had body art, why the eff not? I found these on Pinterest.
From "Jeremy & Kathleen".
Pinterest said this one was from F Yeah, Tattoos, I can't find the original source.
What do you think, is the "Ampersand" in home design a lame duck?

Bird Craft: Put a Bird on a Suitcase
Helen from Curly Birds not only puts birds on her blog, she put them on this vintage suitcase, which will be used to hold dress-up clothes for her two curly-haired daughters.
Check out her post for a tutorial and you, too can Put a Bird on a Suitcase.

Put a Like on Us
Put a Bird on It Blog is on Facebook.
But not Twitter. That would be weird. Too much bird-on-bird action.

Turkey or Trendy? #3: Put a Chevron on It
The next design trend in the Turkey or Trendy series is the chevron.
No, no, not the gas station.
This chevron, which I first remember starting to pop up around '09.
Blue and white chevron wall designed by Lonni Paul on season 4 of HGTV's Design Star, image via HGTV's Design Happens blog.
And this one.
Chevron curtains from Joi & David's A+ Illusion of Luxury house tour on Apartment Therapy.
And this one.
From the now-defunct Domino Magazine, this one has been floating around the internet for a couple of years (and, ahem, putabirdonit).
You know, the one avid design blog readers like myself can't go a day without seeing.
DIY Project: Chevron Pattern Fan Blades, Design Sponge.
Wendy shared her chevron paint job on an old armoire with Design Sponge.
Good grief, Charlie Brown.
It's clear the Chevron Pattern is no longer a spring chicken. What do you think, will you "Put a Chevron on It"?

Put a Larry on It
The Twitter Bird is named Larry, according to MediaBistro. A.K.A. Larry Twitter Bird and Larry T. Bird.
PutABirdOnIt.com Puts a Bird on It
What a sad little website. You know! You'll put a bird on it! Did you see your website before? I didn't. Now there's a bird on it.
Is your website lacking in a certain avian influence? Let Bryce Shivers and Lisa Eversman help you. They put birds on things.
IFC apparently owns PutABirdOnIt.com, where you can put a bird on your website and call it art. It's not a permanent change, but you can take putting a bird on it for a test drive, er, fly. Spruce it up, make it pretty.
So click over to IFC's PutABirdOnIt.com and, hmmm... not sure how I should end this post.

Turkey or Trendy? #2: Put a Keep Calm on It
Predating the craze of "Putting a Bird on It" was the trend of putting a "Keep Calm and Carry On" print on it.
The print has it roots in a World War II-era poster intended to keep British spirits up should a wartime disaster have occurred, but remained relatively unknown and forgotten until it's rediscovery in an English bookshop in 2000.
The owners of the bookshop began reprinting the poster for customers, and by the late-2000s, you could not visit a design blog without seeing a reproduction of the print in one form or another...
In main living areas:
Via Manola for the Home, original source unknown.
...then in kitchens:
Alyson's Illustrated Home from Apartment Therapy
...and nurseries:
"Adorable Aqua and Red Nursery" from Little Green Notebook.
...and in some homes, every single room:
Like Flickr user pjinomaha.
Then there were the home accesories, like mugs, calendars, shower curtains...
...and rugs from SwissMiss...
and eventually body art:
Keep Calm and Carry On tattoo from Irene_Adler on RateMyInk.com.
So it was logical that once "Put a Bird on It" captured the exact spirit of a good design idea gone ubiquitous, artists would begin combining the two:
From Flickr user RedRaspus
and Happy Zombie's rendition.
So, what do you think, is the goose cooked when it comes to the "Keep Calm and Carry On" trend?
